Upwords poetry

A website designed as a resource for young writers and artists
from around CT, from around the U.S. and from around the world.
The goal is to promote literacy and the power of both the written
and spoken word.

Elizabeth Thomas

Elizabeth is the Program Director for Words Alive, a greater Hartford,
CT in-school writing program. Six high schools are involved (New Britain,
Wethersfield, Hartford, East Hartford, Weaver and South Windsor).
The program is in its fifth year and has hosted noted poets and writers
Naomi Ayala, Martin Espada, Marc Smith, Jack Agueros, Gayle Danley,
Claribel Alegria, Ernesto Cardinal, D.J. Renegade, Roger Bonair-Agard,
Sara Holbrook, Wayne Karlin, Patricia Smith, Cheryl Savageau,
Doug Anderson, Luis Rodriguez, Devorah Major, the Welfare Poets and others.
It is sponsored through a grant provided by the Capitol Region Educational Council (CREC).

Curbstone Press

Curbstone Press, a 501(c)(3) non-profit literary arts organization founded in 1975, is located in Willimantic, Connecticut. Curbstone's mission encompasses two interdependent goals: 1) publishing creative literature that promotes human rights and inter-cultural understanding and 2) bringing writers and programs deep into the community to promote literacy, knowledge about many cultures, and an appreciation of literature.
